Lesson 3: 4.2: Trendlines, Channels, and Structural Breakouts
Learn to identify uptrends, downtrends, ascending/descending channels, and breakout confirmation techniques.
1. Mapping Trends and Structures
Uptrends are defined by consecutive Higher Highs (HH) and Higher Lows (HL). Downtrends are defined by Lower Highs (LH) and Lower Lows (LL). Connecting these swing levels yields trendlines.
Parallel trendlines form Price Channels (ascending, descending, or horizontal), bounding price oscillations. A breakout occurs when the price candle closes cleanly outside these boundaries.
★ Risk Warning: False breakouts (bull/bear traps) occur when price breaks out but immediately collapses back inside the channel.
