Lesson 1: 10.0: Introduction to Auction Market Theory
Explore the baseline principles of Auction Market Theory and why financial markets behave as continuous auctions.
1. The Market as a Financial Auction
Auction Market Theory (AMT) is a structural framework that strips away technical indicators and analyzes the market in its purest form: a continuous two-way auction.
Under AMT, the primary purpose of any financial market is not to generate charts or trigger indicators, but to facilitate trade between buyers and sellers.
To do this efficiently, the market constantly auctions price up and down to find a price level where transactions can be maximized.
★ Core Rule: Markets seek maximum transaction efficiency, which occurs at the price level with the highest volume of agreement.
2. The Role of Price and Volume
In this framework, Price is merely an advertising mechanism. It acts as a billboard, screaming out a number to attract participants.
Volume, on the other hand, represents the market's response. If price moves to a level and volume explodes, it proves the market has accepted that price as fair value. If volume is non-existent, the market has rejected that price.
