Lesson 3: 10.2: Price Discovery and Valuation
Examine how market participants constantly revalue assets to discover fair value.
1. Price vs. Value
To master AMT, you must separate the concepts of Price and Value. Price is a specific dollar figure where a transaction occurred. Value is the collective agreement of market participants.
Value is highly dynamic and changes constantly as new economic data, corporate earnings, and geopolitical events alter market expectations.
★ Core Distinction: Price can fluctuate wildly due to short-term retail noise, but value is established by institutional capital.
2. The Price Discovery Cycle
Price Discovery is the process by which the market searches for the true value of an asset. The auction moves away from an old value area when new information enters.
It searches vertically until it finds a new price level where high-volume transactional agreement is established once again, forming a new value zone.
