Module 5: Candlestick AnalysisIntermediate 15 Min

Lesson 6: 5.5: Candlestick Reversal Patterns

Contrast bullish and bearish reversal candlesticks and identify high-probability transition zones.

1. Reversal Patterns as Structural Pivot Points

Reversal candles do not guarantee an immediate, violent turnaround in trend. Instead, they indicate a significant shift in the balance of power, suggesting that the existing trend is exhausting.

A critical concept is location: a hammer or morning star is meaningless in the middle of a choppy range. It must occur at extreme levels (such as oversold RSI, major support, or key volume nodes) to have high technical validity.

★ Pro Rule: Always wait for confirmation. A reversal signal must be followed by a confirming candle in the new direction before taking risk.

A hammer at a support area followed by a confirming candle, next to a similar candle inside a choppy range
Left: a hammer at a support area (99.8 to 100.5), followed by one observed candle that closes above the hammer's high (104 against 102.2). The hammer's body is 0.5 and its lower shadow 1.5, three times the body. Right: a similar candle in the middle of a choppy range, where it tells you much less. Location and confirmation supply the context. Neither picture guarantees a reversal. Illustrative data.

KNOWLEDGE RECONNAISSANCE

Q01.

Why is a bullish reversal candle like a Hammer ineffective when it forms in the middle of a tight trading range?

Signal Desk is where you practice this on real stocks: real option chains (about 15 minutes delayed), the Trade Check and a paper-trading account that risks no real money. Join to add it, your progress tracking and PDF downloads.
