Lesson 1: 6.0: Introduction to Chart Patterns
Explore the mechanics of classical chart patterns, how they represent market consolidation, and how to define targets.
1. Anatomy and Classification of Chart Patterns
Chart patterns are geometric shapes found in price charts that help traders understand the market cycle. They are divided into two primary classes: continuation patterns (signaling that the trend will resume) and reversal patterns (signaling a trend change).
These structures form because market participants repeatedly react to key psychological levels of support and resistance in predictable ways.
★ Core Rule: A pattern is only validated when a breakout occurs on high volume and closes outside the pattern's boundary.
