Why SOFI today

SoFi rose about 13% on Tuesday after its Q3 report beat expectations. Net income rose 73% to $241 million and revenue rose 43% to $1.38 billion, ahead of the roughly $226 million and $1.27 billion analysts expected. The company added a record 1.2 million members to reach 17.1 million, raised its full-year adjusted revenue outlook to about $5 billion, and gave a 2027 outlook above Wall Street estimates. The stock had fallen about 50% from its peak a year earlier, and analyst ratings remain split.

Technical view

  • Price ($16.36) gapped up from Monday's close ($14.47) and now sits above its 21 EMA ($15.37) and 50 EMA ($16.16), but still below its 100 EMA ($16.91) and 200-day EMA (about $18.82, from daily closes). The stock is still about half its 52-week high of $32.73.
  • The jump follows Q3 results: net income rose 73% to $241M and revenue rose 43% to $1.38B, both ahead of estimates. SoFi added a record 1.2M members (17.1M total), raised its full-year revenue outlook to about $5B and gave a 2027 outlook above Wall Street estimates.
  • RSI (14) reads 57.1: neutral, up sharply from its recent lows. The chart's MACD line (-0.03) just crossed above its signal (-0.22) but is still below zero, so the turn is early.
  • Breadth is positive on the day: Nasdaq advancers lead about 1.9 to 1 (2,043 vs 1,072) and NYSE about 1.3 to 1 (1,243 vs 930). About 59% of S&P 500 stocks are above their 50-day average and 58% above their 200-day.
  • New 52-week lows still outnumber highs on the Nasdaq (174 vs 38), about 2:04 PM ET.
  • Options Swing Helper trend bias: Bearish, HV Rank 54.85% (Fair): option premium is about average for its own past year, with annualized volatility at 59.7%.
  • Volume was 127.86M at snapshot time, about 2.5x its 30-day average (50.66M) with the session still open.

Market breadth and new highs / lows

  • NYSE: 1,243 advancers vs 930 decliners, about 1.3 to 1 positive. Nasdaq: 2,043 vs 1,072, about 1.9 to 1 positive (midday).
  • About 59% of S&P 500 stocks were above their 50-day average and 58% above their 200-day (Barchart, about 1:38 PM ET): participation is a little better than half the index.
  • New 52-week highs vs lows (Barchart, about 2:04 PM ET): NYSE 24 vs 27, Nasdaq 38 vs 174, so lows lead, mostly on the Nasdaq.

Our read: Neutral (Improving)

The reading is mixed but improving. Price jumped above its 21 and 50 EMAs on an earnings beat and a raised outlook, RSI is a neutral 57 and the chart's MACD has just crossed above its signal, but price is still below the 100 EMA near $16.91 and the 200-day near $18.82, and the options trend bias reads Bearish. The broad market is firm today, so part of the move is lift from the wider tape. Fundamentals are mixed: revenue growth of about 43%, against a Hold consensus, a $20 average target and a high beta of 2.3. The levels to watch are the 100 EMA near $16.91 on the upside and the 21 EMA near $15.37, then Monday's close near $14.47 where the gap began, on the downside.
